Kirkland visits Bulls

Plenty of prospects were in Tampa over the weekend to watch USF welcome FSU. Senior offensive lineman Denver Kirkland made the trip from Miami with a couple of his Booker T. Washington High School teammates. Get the latest on Kirkland's visit right here.

Denver Kirkland, a target of both Florida State and South Florida, had a great time watching the two teams battle it out.

"I thought it was a good game. South Florida held on throughout the whole game. Many people thought they weren't going to hold on, but South Florida really gave Florida State a run. Both teams really came out and played a good game," he said.

Kirkland took the visit with two of his teammates, senior linebacker Matthew Thomas, and junior linebacker Tevin Evans.

"I was hanging out with (Running Backs) Coach (Larry) Scott and the offensive line coach (Steve Shankweiler). Really it was just me and Matthew Thomas hanging together, trying to get a sense of both teams and stuff like that," Kirkland said.

"(The coaches) were telling me to buckle down because it was going to be a good game to watch, that there would be great intensity."

Kirkland has a nice offer list including South Florida, Florida State, Miami, USC, Auburn, and West Virginia. He maintains his mind is completely open right now and he's just taking it all in.

"USF stands high right now, I love their coaching. They stand high with me, but really I'm open with everything right now," Kirkland said.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman and his high school team have a bye this coming weekend and he's using the free time to take an official visit.

"I'm taking one of my official visits Friday, and that's to Ole Miss," he said.

"I'm just looking for a good experience and stuff like that, I'm trying to see what's on the other side of the map, outside of Florida, what's going on around the world instead of down here in South Florida."

Kirkland isn't expecting to commit any time soon and maintains that his recruiting process will be long and thorough.

"Decision time is going to be Signing Day."
