Treadwell: "UM Still Hanging Around"
It didn’t start off as the best game of Laquon Treadwell career, but Saturday’s semifinal match up with Lemont certainly ended as his most important. After a slow start Treadwell made his presence felt in a big way with nine catches for a 146 yards and a touchdown, as his unbeaten Warriors edged Lemont 28-27 to earn a trip to the Illinois Class 6A championship game for the first time. After trailing 24-14 heading into the fourth quarter Crete-Monee outscored the Indians 14-3 down the stretch. The winning play proved to be a two-point conversion with 3:13 left in regulation. “We knew we couldn’t get stopped on offense,” Treadwell told GoBlueWolverine.com. “We were just shooting ourselves in the foot. And (senior wide receiver) Lance Lenoir was making big plays back to back. Once they left me in man coverage, I made a big play. So our mindset was we couldn’t get stopped. We just got score the ball and the defense got a hold of them.” Treadwell came alive in the second quarter with a 46-yard touchdown catch to tie the game at 14-14. He would finish the first half with four catches. “I wasn’t coming out my breaks as usual, as I usually do,” Treadwell said on his early game struggles. “I would let him (the corner) get his hands on me too much. He was a smaller guy, so he was actually playing around hitting me in the hip in everything on all my runs. I just had to come out lower and explode through.” After turning in a big time performance, Laquon Treadwell said UM is down, but not out.At 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Treadwell showcased his full physicality as a receiver with a 37-yard touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter that included a strong stiff-arm to a Lemont defender. The play was called back due to a Warrior holding penalty, but it was nonetheless impressive. “Once I see a smaller guy coming up they’re going to have to faced my arm I guess. I just like using it, cause it separates you if you are a bigger person,” said Treadwell. Crete-Monee (13-0) will play Cary-Grove (13-0) for the Illinois Class 6A state championship this Saturday at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. “We got to work,” Treadwell said on winning the state title this weekend. “We got to work all week. And we got to focus and watch film and prepare to where we need too.” Recruiting Currently, Treadwell is one of the top prospects remaining on the Michigan 2013 class big board. The four-star wide receiver says the Wolverines are in his top-five along with Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, and Michigan State. “The Wolverines are still hanging around,” Treadwell said on the Maize and Blue recruitment.” I haven’t really heard from the coaches like that. I haven’t really got in contact with (them) or nothing. It was just like, I’m just waiting to hear from them.” Treadwell has been up to Ann Arbor this year for unofficial visits. However, he has yet to schedule his official back to Michigan. He says once his high school season is over he would like to schedule his official visit with the Maize and Blue. “I still want to visit as many times as I can,” Treadwell explained. “I have nothing against the Wolverines. I still love the Wolverines. I just need to get up there.” The Crete-Monee star wide receiver, added he would like to visit Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State before he makes his final decision. He says he won’t make his commitment until he takes all of his five official visits. As far as what Treadwell is looking for in a school, the Scout.com’s #7 wideout made that clear. “(A Program that’s) going to spread the ball around. Put the ball in their best players hands. And put the ball in the receivers hands. Just a winning program—BCS contender.” For the full video interview and highlights of Treadwell in action, press play below. var VideoMediaID = "1127404" var VideoStillImageID = "1127405" var MediaDir = "http://video.scout.com/media/"; var VideoURL = MediaDir + "video/flv/" + parseInt( VideoMediaID / 10000 ) + "/" + VideoMediaID + ".flv"; var ImageURL = MediaDir + "image/" + parseInt( VideoStillImageID / 10000 ) + "/" + VideoStillImageID + ".jpg"; var so = new SWFObject ('http://cdn-cms.scout.com/swf/flvplayer.swf','mpl','440','360','8'); so.addParam ('allowscriptaccess','always'); so.addParam ('allowfullscreen','true'); so.addVariable ('height','360'); so.addVariable ('width','440'); so.addVariable ('file',VideoURL); so.addVariable ('image',ImageURL); so.addVariable ('backcolor','0x000000'); so.addVariable ('frontcolor','0xFFFFFF'); so.addVariable ('lightcolor','0x00FF00'); so.addVariable ('screencolor','0x000000'); so.addVariable ('logo','http://media.scout.com/media/a/_network/mediaplayer/scoutTVlogo.png'); so.addVariable ('showstop','true'); so.write ('player');
