TSD TV: Deion Jones

LSU OLB Deion Jones

Rising sophomore outside linebacker Deion Jones brings a lot of speed to John Chavis' defense. How is he fitting into the 2013 defense and which fellow linebackers are looking good this spring?

Click on the link below for my video interview with LSU sophomore Deion Jones. The outside linebacker from Jesuit is continuing to carve out a role with the Tigers thanks to his quickness and speed.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT

Ben Love: You're in the last week of spring practice now. What are the keys for the defense leading up to the spring game?

Deion Jones: Getting the calls down, being more physical and being sure we're more efficient. We have to fly around to the ball and be that powerful defense that we always have been.

BL: For you to be a guy at the outside linebacker spot, are you doing things this spring that are similar to your freshman year? Or is it different at all?

DJ: It's almost the same thing. I'm just trying to be more physical, trying to read plays faster and get keys faster.

BL: Do you have a chance this year to maybe play some nickel back or do some things that aren't necessarily in the linebacker mold?

DJ: They haven't tried me at anything yet, but if they want to, I mean I'm down. I'm willing to do it.

BL: How are your coverage skills?

DJ: Pretty good.

BL: What would you say the strong point of your game is going into your sophomore year?

DJ: The strong part right now is getting the keys and my speed. And diagnosing plays.

BL: There was no D.J. Welter out there [on Tuesday]. I saw Lamar Louis moved up to first-team middle linebacker. What's Lamar look like in the middle?

DJ: Lamar is the most physical middle we have. He's a hammer. He's doing what he has to do to give D.J. some competition.

BL: Another guy who's a sophomore is Kwon Alexander. Tell me how you think he's coming along.

DJ: He's pretty much like the leader of the second-string linebackers when he's out there, getting the calls and stuff like that. He's a pretty good linebacker.
