ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with the latest football prospect to receive offer from the Missouri Tigers…
July and August are going to be big months that will shape the direction of the 2014 class. Several prospects are deciding, and other top targets will be visiting. We take a look at which prospects Syracuse has the best chance of landing. The scale is 1-star to 5-stars, with 5-stars being most likely the prospect will commit to Syracuse. Lubern Figaro – 2-stars: Figaro has Syracuse in his top 3, but has yet to visit the campus. The 3-star corner says he wants to take the short trip, but he doesn't appear to be as important as other corners on the Orange's board. Lamar Dawson – 5-stars: The talented Chicago (IL) native told CuseNation.com recently that he believes he will commit on his visit which should happen by the end of the month. It would be stunning if Dawson ended up anywhere but Syracuse. Hallmon plans to visit Syracuse Deion Hallmon – 4-stars: What a wild ride following his Twitter account is, right? While his recruitment may seem unpredictable, the Orange sit in a good spot for Hallmon. He has tweeted that he will visit Syracuse first among his officials. The staff has recruited Hallmon very hard throughout the process. Antwan Cordy - 3-stars: Another cornerback from the Sunshine State, Cordy has Syracuse in his top five. Stanford also offered recently and is in the mix. A visit is in the works to Upstate New York, but Cordy may not be in play if the Orange land Hallmon and Dawson. Christian Byrum – 3-stars: When he announced his top six, I thought Syracuse was on the outside of the group. However, he was impacted by the attention Orange fans have shown him. If an on campus visit goes well, Byrum could be in play. Micquell Cotton – 3-stars: Cotton was originally set to commit, and Iowa State seemed to be the logical choice. However, he pushed back his decision and is looking to visit more schools. Syracuse is on that list. The Orange really like Cotton, so the visit will be critical. Nile Sykes – 3-stars: Sykes is being pursued by many, but Iowa State and Syracuse appear to be the favorites. The Orange love his combination of size, athleticism, and speed. He speaks very highly of Syracuse and is very interested in an on campus visit. Expect this one to come down to the Cyclones and Orange. Thomas Holley – 2-stars: Syracuse is by no means out of it, but they are behind in the race. The good news is that Holley does plan on visiting the Orange this summer. The visit will be enormous if Syracuse wants to be a serious contender for arguably the best player in New York. Aaron Roberts – 4-stars: It's Illinois or Syracuse for the interior offensive lineman. Visits will be the key, but the Orange have the final say as Roberts will take the eastern trip on August 9th. Despite the Illini having the home field advantage, Syracuse is in a good position here. Chad Mavety – 2-stars: Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida State remain interested. However, Alabama already has a JUCO OT in the fold, and Ohio State could get a flip from Jermaine Eluemunor. Florida State could be far away, so could Mavety end up at Syracuse by default? It's possible, but Rutgers is also in the mix. Syracuse must get Mavety on campus, which should happen before the summer is out. Brendan Brosnan - 3-stars: Brosnan loved his visit to Syracuse. He has also visited Boston College, Illinois, and Vanderbilt. Visits to N.C. State and Virginia Tech are still upcoming. Those are the visits that should concern Syracuse fans. Ultimately, expect him to take all of his visits and decide shortly there after. The Orange have a shot but it's hard to guage which schools lead, if any. Ervin Phillips – 4-stars: The West Haven (CT) running back was originally thought to be set to commit to Syracuse during an unofficial last month. However, he decided he wanted to take a few more visits before deciding. Recent tweets suggest he's trying to take an official visit with other recruits and Syracuse commits. The Orange are still a strong favorite here, but a decision may not come until the fall. The only question is if the Orange land their other two running back targets will there still be room for Phillips? Ollison is one of Syracuse's top targets Qadree Ollison – 3-stars: The further his recruitment progresses the more I get the impression Syracuse has a strong chance to land the talented in-state running back. Penn State's class is filling up fast, Rutgers already has two commitments at the position as does Wisconsin, and Pittsburgh also has one. Expect Ollison to visit again as the Orange continue to make him a top priority. Ish Witter – 4-stars: The Tampa (FL) Alonso High running back is very high on Syracuse's wish list. He is visiting for the first time on July 23rd, and that could go a long way towards his final decision. Rutgers and Missouri round out his top three, but the Tigers appear to be behind both the Orange and Scarlet Knights. However, with two running backs already in the fold, it's doubtful Rutgers would take both Ollison and Witter. Syracuse sits in a good spot here. Christian Blake – 3-stars: I still expect Blake to choose Syracuse, but he took a step back when Missouri offered. He visits the Orange on July 22nd. Originally, a commitment seemed likely. With the new offer, it seems less probable. However, if Syracuse can blow him away, he could decide a trip to Missouri isn't necessary. NIU is also in the mix but doesn't appear likely to land the talented receiver.
