Scout 300: East Rankings

The updated Scout 300 was released Monday for the 2014 class, and 37 members are from the East Region.

Paramus (N.J.) Catholic five-star cornerback Jabrill Peppers leads the list of 37 players from the East Region in the newly-released Scout 300, and 13 of the players remain uncommitted.

Notre Dame has commitments from five players from the East Region in the Scout 300, and Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Virginia each have three.

In addition, three players saw their ratings upgraded to four starts in the rankings.

Peppers, a Michigan commit and one of four five-star prospects in the region, is No. 5 prospect in the nation, and the No. 2 cornerback behind Beaumont (Texas) Ozen's Tony Brown.

Woodbridge (Va.) High defensive end Da'Shawn Hand, the top uncommitted player in the region, is No. 10 and joins Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside safety Quin Blanding and Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith defensive tackle Andrew Brown as the other five-star prospects. Blanding and Brown are both committed to Virginia.

Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi made a bit jump as he went from No. 122 to No. 94 and Ohio State commit Jalyn Holmes, a defensive end from Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor, moved up 18 spots into the Scout 100 and is at No. 84.

Receiver is the most prevalent position with eight members from the East in the Scout 300. There are five cornerback and five defensive ends, followed by defensive tackle (4), offensive tackle (4), safety (4), outside linebacker (3), quarterback (3), offensive guard (1), running back (1) and tight end (1).

The new four-star prospects are Sparta (N.J.) Pope John XXIII receiver Noah Brown, Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian Academy receiver Freddy Canteen, a Michigan commit, and Richmond (Va.) Benedictine outside linebacker Raymond Minor.

Notre Dame's five commits in the region are the most, with Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic offensive tackle Quenton Nelson leading the way at No. 63. He is followed by Olney (Md.) Our Lady of Good Counsel offensive guard Sam Mustipher (No. 72), Demarest (N.J.) Northern Valley defensive end Andrew Trumbetti (No. 151), Brooklyn (N.Y.) Poly Prep defensive tackle Jay Hayes (No. 221) and Woodberry Forest (Va.) School outside linebacker Greer Martini (No.) 260.

Michigan has commitments from Peppers (No. 5), Clairton (Pa.) Thomas Jefferson linebacker Chase Winovich (No. 266) and Canteen (No. 280).

Penn State has commitments from Scout 300 members Upper Marlboro (Md.) Wise safety Marcus Allen (No. 252) and Middletown (Del.) High receiver Chris Godwin and Pittsburgh Mt. Lebanon receiver Troy Apke (No. 300), and Baltimore Gilman School cornerback Troy Vincent Jr. is also a four-star prospects.

Virginia is the only school with two five-star commitments from the region in Blanding (No. 15 overall) and Brown (No. 20). Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor offensive tackle Steven Moss, who is committed to the Cavaliers, is a four-star prospect and No. 110 overall.

Finally, Ohio State has three commitments from Scout 300 members hailing from the East, and Holmes (No. 84) is the highest rated of them. Brooklyn Erasmus Hall receiver Curtis Samuel (No. 148) and New Castle (Pa.) High receiver Malik Hooker (No. 276) are also on the list. Recommended Stories
