Clark: Notes from the road
Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek fullback Jaylen Samuels is one of the most underrated prospects in North Carolina. The 6-foot, 225-pound Samuels put his team on his back last week, leading them to a 27-21 victory over Dillon (S.C.) The North Carolina State commit finished with three carries for 65 yards, 7 catches for 90 yards, a 56-yard punt return and three touchdowns. Dillon quarterback Avery McCall is undoubtedly one of the top 2016 signal-callers in the South. The 6-foot, 180-pound McCall was very impressive against Mallard Creek, completed 15 of 25 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also had several nice runs. McCall already has scholarship offers from Clemson, East Carolina, LSU, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Latta (S.C) offensive guard Donell Stanley is down to four schools – Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina and South Carolina. While I may give South Carolina a slight edge, I think his other finalists also have a legitimate chance to land him. Originally, he planned to make his decision at the Under Armour All-American Game, but now it appears he is looking to make his commitment before the end of football season. It is hard to believe 2016 Conway (S.C.) wide receiver Bryan Edwards is only 14 years old. Edwards, who is already 6-3 and 200 pounds, looks like a senior. He holds early offers from Clemson, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. Over the next few months, look for that list to get much longer. 2015 Sumter (S.C.) Crestwood running back Ty'Son Williams split carries with a senior last fall, but made the most of his opportunities, averaging over 10 yards per carry. He has an offer from N.C. State and is attracting interest from Florida State, Georgia and South Carolina. I expect him to have a huge season. 2015 Columbia (S.C.) A.C.Flora safety Rion Davis is flying under the radar right now, but that should change in the near future. The 6-foot, 185-pound Davis is very physical and is a good athlete. He is attracting interest from Clemson, Duke, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.
