Brother Rice (Mich.) class of 2015 quarterback Alex Malzone has had heavy contact since September…
Scouting: Brother Rice vs St. Ignatius
BROTHER Rice Junior quarterback Alex Malzone takes over as the full time starter this year after flashing big time ability in a part time role last season. He did not disappoint in game one. His arm strength was on display as was his accuracy and consistency. He also displayed great poise and made a number of big throws on 3rd down and in key situations. He's calm and has a big arm. He picked up his first two offers (WMU and Toledo) shortly after this performance and there are likely more on the way. His favorite targets were senior Corey Lacanaria and junior Grant Perry. Lacanaria is undersized, but an outstanding playmaker who made several clutch catches including a big time diving grab. He's a great route runner and has very good hands. He will find a home in college and make some school very happy. Perry is also a great route runner. He knows how to set up defensive backs and create separation and has sure hands. He's a good underneath receiver and would be a dangerous slot guy in college. Senior Damaris Woods caught a touchdown. He's a good sized kid who we liked over the summer. Senior safety Jason Alessi returned a punt for the touchdown, had an interception and booted several field goals. He's a Division-1 safety and kicker with great instincts, good speed and overall athleticism. He has a couple offers, but more should be on their way. Senior defensive back Chris Carter had a good game at corner. He had several pass breakups and showed he could cover man to man. Defensive tackle Alberto Sandoval was disruptive and got in the backfield several times including late in the game where he was part of a key safety. Senior running backs Brian Walker and Shon Powell were the thunder and lightning combo. While there wasn't a ton of room against a good Ignatius defense, Walker had a solid performance, running tough and converting some big 3rd and shorts. ST. IGNATIUS Senior Dameon Willis was extremely active from his safety spot. He projects as an outside linebacker at the next level and was great in run support. He has a nose for the ball. He reads and diagnoses plays quickly and takes good angles to the football. He's a sure tackler and was seemingly in on every tackle. Notre Dame commit Jimmy Byrne did a nice job on the offenisve line. He's very solid and does a nice job of playing with a good base and keeping his feet underneath him. A right tackle in high school, we see him as a guard for the Irish. Junior Liam Eichenberg will also likely be a college guard. He's a tough, blue collar type lineman who did a nice job in the run game. Senior Michael Siragusa is a big target with good hands. He had an 80-yard catch and run that answered some questions about his speed. He's made plays every time we've seen him. Senior defensive back Scott Arthrell is simply a great football player who was always in great position and showed good skills in coverage. Junior defensive end Dre'Mont Jones has size and length. He's still raw, but has great tools.
