Gainesville (Fla.) High wide receiver Kenric Young talks about his visit to Indiana this past…
Young feels the love at Iowa State
"They were showing me love, treated me like I was a part of the team," Kenric Young said about his visit to Iowa State. The Gainesville (Fla.) Gainesville High School receiver had so many great things to say about his time in Ames. "I love the fanbase, they're great, they stand behind the team, and the whole city is just crazy for Iowa State. The facility is just one of the best I've ever seen, better than some of these big schools around the nation," Young said. "The coaching staff showed me so much love, treated me like I was really a five star and showed me how much they wanted me. I got to eat with (head) coach (Paul) Rhoads in the morning and his family. I went out with the players the night before." Redshirt freshman receiver and Florida native, Dondre Daley, was Young's host. He had a great time with Daley and other players, including another Florida native, freshman linebacker Alton Meeks. "I got to talk to (Alton Meeks) and some other players and see how they feel about it. They love being there," Young said. The Cyclones may not have won the game on Saturday, but they certainly made a big impression on Young. "The game was – I can't – it was fantastic. The intensity was up, they never gave up through the whole game, they kept fighting. They could have given up a bunch of times, but they didn't. They fought through it. They didn't get the outcome that they wanted, but they were satisfied that the hard work that they put in," he said. Young got an exciting recruiting pitch from the Iowa State coaches, but it wasn't just the coaches who were working on the 6-foot-2, 175-pound receiver. "(The coaches) just said I could come make big plays. They had their receiver score three times, they said it could have been me and I probably could have scored five times with my speed," Young said. "(Cyclones commitment) Allen Lazard, all he could say was no matter what, he's staying committed and he wants me to be part of history with him and we can make top plays every week." Young has an official visit set up to Indiana next week, but the Cyclones certainly made a big impression on the Gainesville athlete. "Iowa State was already top five, they're moving up right now. I'm going to take this Indiana visit so I can compare, but they're moving up, probably to the top three," he said. Young also hopes to take an official visit to Wisconsin, but probably won't take any more visits until he finishes his senior season.
