"Right now, as far as 1-A goes, I've gotten to know a few coaches from Minnesota," he said. "I've gone there for camps and a game this fall. Ball State is another one. Purdue, I've been in contact with Coach Maurice. He wants me to come down at the end of November. I've heard from Northern Illinois a little bit and Wisconsin just a little bit. 1-AA schools, Northern Iowa, I talk to their offensive line coach, Rick Nelson. I've talked to him for awhile, Illinois State, also North Dakota, Western Illinois, North Dakota State and Eastern Illinois."
The visit to the Twin Cities was a good one for Steckler, and he says the Golden Gophers are among the schools he hears from the most.
"It was a really cool atmosphere. It's very big up there. Coming from Wisconsin, I know how big Camp Randall is and it was not much different. The students were into it and they have nice facilities. I liked it. After the game, I talked to couple coaches. I had seen them before at camps, I talked to their offensive line coach and also Coach Zebrowski who recruits Wisconsin."
He has also had a chance to get down to Muncie and see one of the top programs in the MAC.
"I went to Ball State a few weeks ago for homecoming. It was cool. It was a close game. I liked it there. The coaches are real good guys. They gave it to you straight. They told us how hard it is going to be and showed us the strength and conditioning program. I liked it there. It seems like a good challenge."
Coming up, Steckler hopes to continue to take visits.
"I talked to coaches from Northern Illinois today. They have a couple more home games they want me to get to and I'm going to one of the Purdue games."
