Holmes Looks for Second Offer
Denton (Tx.) 2015 defensive lineman Dailon Holmes received his first offer from North Texas about three weeks ago to kick off his recruitment. While no new offers have arrived in the time since the Mean Green came calling, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end said a couple of out-of-state teams have contacted him. Iowa has been sending Holmes a lot of mail correspondence, while Kansas State has been in touch him as well. "Kansas State invited me to a junior day, but I couldn't go," said Holmes noting that weather issues and taking the SAT have kept him from attending a couple of junior days. Holmes has attended a junior day event at Texas A&M and said recently that UTSA has also shown interest in him. Holmes added that the Mean Green staff has stayed in contact with him since offering. "I'm going to one of their practices either this Saturday or next," Holmes said Tuesday afternoon. Holmes plays an end position in Denton's 3-4 scheme. He possesses impressive strength and uses his hands well. Holmes told Scout.com after his North Texas offer that he's more comfortable as an inside pass-rusher than an edge guy, which makes sense as a 3-4 player despite him wearing the end label for Denton. There's a chance he could add weight and play tackle in an even-front scheme, which might fit his skills better, even if he could be a bit small for that role. Holmes and Burleson defensive end/tackle Kenneth Mann are DFW defenders to watch in the 2015 class. Mann holds offers from Kansas State, North Texas, Houston, and Louisiana Tech and is also a 3-4 end who could fit multiple defenses at the next level.
