Huskers check on Doherty
Nebraska was in Kansas City (Mo.) Winnetonka to check in on Marquise Doherty. The Nebraska staff has really bonded with Doherty and his family. The Huskers wanted to get an answer to a question about where Doherty could possibly fit in their class. "Coach John Garrison was here to see me on Monday," Doherty said. "We can't talk, but he was here to check on me. He told my coach that he was giving me Coach Ron Brown's regards and wanted to know how my family was. "He was also here to see if I was opposed to playing defense. My coach told him no just like I am having him tell every coach. I tell every school that I want to play where I can help." Doherty was unable to get up to Lincoln for their junior day in February, but made it in for a spring practice. He says that he's going to try and make it to Lincoln again in June for Big Red Weekend. "I know that Nebraska is having another Big Red Weekend and they have been asking if I can make it. They are having two weekends so I am sure that I will be able to make it one of the two weekends. "I went last year and it went great. It's a great tool for Nebraska to see what the school is all about and really see who they are. That's what I liked the most about the visit." Besides making it back to Lincoln, Doherty says that he wants to check out a couple of schools in the area that have offered. Time will definitely be limited as his school baseball season wraps up and his tournament team season begins. "I would like to make it to Kansas State and Iowa as well as some other schools in the area that have offered. School baseball is over in a month and I will have a week off between school getting out to my tournament team. "Our baseball season is going alright. We are 3-8 and we are having to work in a lot of young guys. We should be ready to peak at the right time in district play. I have gone 21-for-36 and I am playing center field."
