2016 two-way star Saivion Smith holds some impressive scholarship offers
Clemson first to offer rangy athlete
As a sophomore, Smith had about 700 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. He accumulated 400 yards on punt and kick returns. On the defensive side of the ball, he had six interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Smith also played some quarterback.
"Coach Elliott actually came to the school. Coach [Corey] Moore introduced me to him. I don't remember what time it was…[Elliott] said, ‘I watched your film and talked to the defensive coordinator and he actually told me to offer you on the spot.' So that's how that came about," Smith said last Wednesday.
About 10 minutes before speaking with CUTigers that night, he added an offer from UCF. Florida offered the next day, so did Iowa State.
Clemson likes him as a cornerback and UCF said they're recruiting him as a defensive back. At this point, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect doesn't care what position he plays at the next level.
"I honestly just want an opportunity to showcase my talent and I just want to further my education also," Smith said.
Clemson's offer was a bit of a surprise.
"I didn't even know [Elliott], honestly. He just came to do. I met him today and they offered," Smith said.
He's still learning about Clemson.
"I don't know much. I know it's a great school. There's a lot of tradition there. It's a nice fan-base. I know they get really loud there," Smith said.
Florida, Florida State and Georgia have also been by to evaluate him this spring.
