NFTC Columbus: Offensive Preview

NFTC Columbus: Offensive Preview

An impressive group of offensive prospects from a wide variety of states will attend this weekend's NIKE Football Training Camp in Columbus. Multiple Scout 300 prospects and numerous kids with offers will attend and as always, there will be a few without offers who prove they are worthy.

The running back group will feature the Midwest's top prospect, Madison Southern (Ky.) running back Damien Harris. He will be joined by fellow four-stars Kendalle Bussey, a Nebraska commit from Louisiana, Mike Weber (Detroit Cass Tech) and Andrew Dowell, a Northwestern commit from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward.

There are several other rising seniors who already hold offers including Canadian product Jonathan Femi-Cole, Western Michigan commit James Gilbert (Lawrence Central, Ind.), Markell Jones (Columbus East, Ind.), Louisville (Ky.) Manual's Michael Nero, Ohio standouts Breck Turner and Richard Worship, and Florida product Quaide Weimerskirch. One notable prospect still searching for his first offer is DeMatha (Md.) back Jaire George, the son of Eddie George.

In the younger classes, the top 2016 prospects attending are Tennessee commit Dorian Banks and Ashland (Ky.) Blazer's Quinton Baker, who has a Kentucky offer and stood out at last year's event.

The wide receiver group will feature Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge's Alex Ofodile, a national prospect with an offer list that now extends well into the double digits. Two of the Midwest's top rising junior receivers will be there as well in Cleveland Benedictine's Justin Layne and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' Austin Mack, both early four-stars with BCS offers.

Other seniors-to-be who hold offers coming include Grant Perry (Brother Rice, Mich.), Keion Wakefield (Louisville Male, Ky.), Grant Weatherford (Hamilton Heights, Ind.), Darryl Turner (Dematha Catholic, Md.), Elijah Ball (Cincinnati Princeton, Ohio), Bellevue (Neb.) West's C.J. Johnson, Leonardtown (Md.) St. Mary Ryken's Kyle Goddard, and Ryan Lucas (Trotwood-Madison, Ohio).

Other underclassmen to watch include Detroit Cass Tech class of 2017 standout Donovan Peoples-Jones, who recently added his first offer from Ohio State, Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt ‘s Kobay White and Chandler Park (Mich.) Academy's Jalen Martin.

The tight end position is a good one with four-star prospect C.J. Conrad, a Kentucky commit as one of the headliners. Olathe (Ks.) North's Josh Moore has multiple BCS offers and Tennessee native Kyle Oliver also has an ever-growing list of scholarships. Class of 2016 prospect Jake Hausmann of Cincinnati Moeller is one of the best in his class and has several major offers to show for it. Another class of 2016 product we will watch closely is Columbus (Ind.) North's Drew Schoeberl.

The offensive line group will feature one of the nation's top offensive tackles, Penn State commit Sterling Jenkins. Two fellow class of 2015 prospects George Asafo-Adjei and James Daniels both are interior prospects and have their share of BCS offers.

Two from Pennsylvania, Tony Pilato and Ryan Podgorski both come in holding FBS offers. Ball State commit Grant Williamson and Toledo commit Chandler Cotterman will compete in Columbus before they compete for MAC supremacy in the future. Batavia (Ill.) prospect Jack Breshears and massive, 350-pound Maryland native Barnabas Baning also hold offers.

The underclassman group is very impressive. Traverse City (Mich.) West's Thiyo Lukusa is a four-star 2016 prospect with offers from several Big Ten programs. Woodford County (Ky.) center Drake Jackson is always one of the top performers at camps and has a couple offers as well. Coming all the way from Arizona is one of the nation's top 2017 prospects, offensive tackle Kayden Lyles, who already has an impressive list of offers. By all accounts, fellow rising sophomore Emani Mason of East English Village Prep (Mich.) will join him someday with BCS offers. We will also keep an eye on 6-foot-7 class of 2016 prospect Bailey Byrum from Tennessee.
