East Texas Weekly Recruiting Notebook

2015 RB Javon Thomas

Four commitments, including two from junior college prospects, highlighted the past week (June 9-15) in East Texas recruiting.

Motekiai Maile became a very popular target during the past two months following a strong freshman season playing for Tyler Junior College.

Maile, who is originally from Euless, Texas, but finished his high school career in Pittsburg, Calif., racked up almost 10 offers in a short span and could still get more. But GoPokes.com provided news to start the week right for Oklahoma State fans as Maile committed to the Cowboys.

Despite his impressive size of 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, Maile is not simply a gap-control, block-occupying tackle. He's very light on his feet and athletic in pursuit, playing with a high motor that makes him scheme-versatile. Maile chose the Cowboys over other offers from Arizona State, Mississippi State, North Texas, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech. He had also received interest from schools such as Texas and USC.

Maile plans to be a spring 2015 enrollee at Oklahoma State following his sophomore campaign this fall for TJC.

Another East Texas JUCO commitment came from an East Texas native. Kilgore College tight end Colin Jeter picked up two big SEC offers in a two-day span before committing to LSU over offers from South Carolina and UTSA.

At 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, Jeter has the tall, long frame to add more weight and become the blocking-first tight end that LSU loves to use. That also fits his style of play as he comes from a high school background at Longview where he was asked to be a tone-setter in the run game rather than beat linebackers and safeties in the passing game.

Jeter will have four years to play three seasons at LSU, according to TigerSportsDigest.com.

Two high school prospects also made commitments.

Texarkana Texas High 2015 running back Javon Thomas (pictured above) pledged to Tulsa, choosing the Golden Hurricane over offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Navy, New Mexico, Rice, and Toledo. Thomas' commitment to Tulsa came only days after 2015 receiver teammate Jarion Anderson committed to the Golden Hurricane.

At 6-foot-2 1/2, 211 pounds with a laser-timed 4.62 40-yard dash, don't be surprised if Thomas continues to get looks and offers.

Canton 2015 defensive end Sam Miller visited North Texas on Sunday and committed to the Mean Green.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder has been a very popular target this spring as he accumulated double-digit offers. Miller chose the Mean Green over offers from Arkansas State, Houston, Kansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Nevada, Oregon State, Texas State, and UTSA.

Miller is North Texas' second commitment for the 2015 class. The other is also an East Texan: Tyler John Tyler receiver Rodney Bendy.

In offer news, Marshall 2015 offensive tackle picked up his first FBS offer from North Texas after impressing the Mean Green staff at mid-week satellite camp in Tyler.

Trinity Valley Community College receiver Jarvis Baxter was one of double-digit Texans in the past week-plus to pick up a New Mexico offer. Baxter already held an offer from North Texas.

Finally, Nacogdoches 2015 four-star cornerback and Oklahoma State commit Jaylon Lane got a Wednesday offer from Michigan. Lane is the East Texas offers leader with almost 40.
