John Houston started off the spring strong looking very good at the SoCal NIKE Camp in March where he was locked in a spot to The Opening. He then impressed at several 7v7 competitions showing the size, athleticism and cover skills that have him so heavily regarded and a national recruit.
Unfortunately a back injury has hindered Houston the last month and didn't allow him to participate at The Opening this past week.
"The only way to get it better is to rest it," Houston said while on the NIKE Campus. "It was killing me to be out here and not work out with the rest of the guys. It really humbled me and changed the way I look at football now.
"Knowing that an injury can stop you from playing at any time, it really makes me appreciate the game that much more. When I get back with my team, I'm going to appreciate the game a lot more and be more of a leader. I'm going to be a better teammate and attack the game a lot more than ever. I'll be fine by the fall and I can't wait to get back in to the weight room and get my strength back a little."
On the recruiting front, Houston said he'll be coming out with his top 13 over the next few weeks.
"I know that's a large list but I still like a lot of schools right now," Houston said. "A lot of different schools have a lot to offer and I want to take my time and do as much research on all of them as I can.
"The schools I know will make the cut are Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Notre Dame, USC and UCLA. I plan to take all five of my official visits and I don't plan on making my choice until Signing Day. A lot can change over the season so I want to take as much time as I can and make sure I'm doing the right thing."
