Sometimes it’s just about getting the recruit back to campus. That was the case Saturday as Oklahoma was able to get League City (Texas) Clear Falls wide receiver John Humphrey to Norman and didn’t let him leave without committing.
Humphrey confirmed he committed to the Sooners following his second unofficial visit to campus Saturday afternoon. He is OU’s 10th overall commitment for the Class of 2015.
Humphrey emerged as a major player for OU back in February at junior day. Things went so good there that most expected a commitment to follow. It did, but not to the Sooners as Humphrey committed to Baylor.
But as time passed, OU never gave up on Humphrey and the recruit and the Bears started to have a little bit of differences of opinion.
Namely how things were going to go at the next level. OU sees Humphrey at wide receiver, while Baylor and some other schools see him at defensive back.
He decommitted from the Bears earlier this summer, and it looked like it was down to OU and Notre Dame. Humphrey even confirmed as much when he released a top two Tuesday night with the Sooners and the Irish.
The hope was to get Humphrey back to campus before the start of the season, but it didn’t look like it would pan out that way as Humphrey said earlier this week he wasn’t going to be able to make the trip.
But things changed again Friday night when Humphrey told Sooners Illustrated he was indeed coming to campus. With a loaded group of recruits coming to campus, it was the perfect combination of things to get the commitment.
Humphrey, known for his speed, is OU’s first wide receiver commit for the class.
