Head coach Charlie Strong and the entire Texas coaching staff is very familiar with North Shore Sr. Current running back verbal commitment Tristian Houston plays for North Shore Sr. as well as 2015 offensive linemen Tyler Moore and 2016 standouts Eric Monroe and Maciah Long.
Eric Monroe is the No five ranked safety prospect in the class of 2016 according to Scout.com. The four-star 6-foot, 180-pound standout feels blessed to be in this position.
"I feel so blessed to receive an offer from these colleges," Monroe said. "I am just going through the motions on the recruiting process. I play hard, and I know how to play the game, I am real physical."
Defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn has been very impressed with Monroe on and off the field. The two are starting to build a strong bond with each other.
"Coach Vaughn is real cool," Monroe said. "He is real laid back, he just wants players to ball out on the field."
Monroe has no plans to make a decision until after his senior season. Right now, LSU is the team showing him the most love.
Texas will have a small edge with current running back commitment Tristian Houston as his teammate. Houston understands the kind of player Monroe is.
"Eric Monroe is a determined kid who wants to be the best," Houston said. "He can bring a lot to Texas because he has speed, quick awareness and good height, and he can play quarterback. What I like most about his game is he is not afraid to go tackle someone bigger and stronger than he is. He is a great kid with amazing talent."
