West '15: Preseason Top Ten Running Backs

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley running back Malik Lovette leads the positional group out West...

1. Malik Lovette, 5-11, 175, Redlands (Calif.) East Valley
Considering Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC

The Skinny: Lovette can play in the slot as a receiver or be a multi-carry a game running back and is one of the more versatile backs in the region, much like another back from Redlands East Valley seven years ago, Chris Polk.

2. Cameron Scarlett, 6-1, 210, Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic
Considering Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington

The Skinny: The top back in the Northwest and Oregon's top prospect in this class, Scarlett has a blend of power, vision and speed that make him one of the most difficult backs to bring down.

3. Myles Gaskin, 5-9.5, 185, Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea
Committed to Washington

The Skinny: Gaskin committed early on to the hometown Huskies and is one of the fastest and shiftiest backs in the region.

4. Bolu Olorunfunmi, 5-11, 210, Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North
Committed to UCLA

The Skinny: Built like a power back but still runs light on his feet, Bolu did a number of camps this spring and summer and looked better each time.

5. Kirk Johnson, 5-11, 190, San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian
Committed to Texas

The Skinny: The future Longhorn committed early to his father's alma mater, then went to the Oakland NFTC and was the SPARQ MVP, showing the athleticism and skill set that made him a priority for Texas.
