Clark’s Top Performers: Week Two

Last week, I saw two games in North Carolina – Roanoke Rapids vs. Wilson Fike and New Bern vs. Havelock. Below are the top performers.

A.J. Hines, RB, 5-11,220

In a little over a half of action, the junior finished with 10 carries for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Hines, who is averaging over 160 yards a game and 14 yards per carry through the first two games, should start to see his recruitment pick up steam during the current evaluation period.

D.J. Daniels, QB, 6-2, 200

Like Hines, the Fike junior quarterback only played a little more than half the game. Daniels completed 5-of-8 passes (two were dropped) for 125 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball four times for 37 yards and another touchdown in the Demons blowout 41-7 win. Daniels is really coming into his own at quarterback and has a very high ceiling. He was offered by Boston College last week and look for more schools to follow suit in the near future.

Keion Joyner, OLB, 6-3, 222

New Bern got to the win, but the 2016 Havelock five-star prospect had a huge game. Joyner finished with nine total tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and a blocked punt. He is an explosive athlete with great range on defense, who can take over a game. Joyner showed why he is one of the top prospects in the nation and the sky is the limit for him.

Kyran Bowman, WR, 6-2, 175

The 2016 Havelock playmaker was huge on Friday, finishing with nine catches for 89 yards. Nearly every time the Rams needed a play in the passing game, they went to the North Carolina commit, especially on third down. He did a nice job of getting open and made several tough catches for first downs. Bowman is now the Rams No. 1 receiver and should have a huge season.

Mike Hughes, CB, 5-10, 180

The most impressive performance of the weekend came from Mike Hughes (pictured), who lines quarterback for New Bern. The senior rushed for 186 yards and all four of his team’s touchdowns and passed for 35 yards. Hughes put the team on his back, leading them to a huge 25-21 win against rival Havelock. He is an electric playmaker and a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball.
