The South Florida Bulls have been recruiting relatively well this year but things picked up on…
RB Battles talks about why he chose USF
Recruiting is moving at a faster pace then it ever has for the South Florida Bulls. On Monday night they picked up their third commit towards the '09 class. Bradley Battles from Marianna High School is the latest to give his verbal commitment to the Bulls coaching staff. "Yes I called Coach up and committed," said Battles. "I already knew that I wanted to go there, and have known for a long time. I was going to wait, but decided to do it." Battles chose the Bulls over a slew of offers including Kentucky, Wake Forest, Purdue, Louisville, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Iowa State, N. Illinois, Mississippi State, Maryland, Colorado, Purdue, Troy, Marshall, Akron, FIU, FAU, Memphis, N. Illinois, and also had plenty of other interests as well. "I like everything about the school and the program," said Battles "I like the location, I wanted to stay in Florida and that had a lot to do with it." Battles added, "I also really like the coaches, they got a good staff and that's a big thing too. As a junior Battles was voted All-State First Team 2A by the FSWA. He had 2,100 yards rushing on 275 carries with 25 touchdowns. Defensively he had 70 tackles and two interceptions. Battles also excelled on special teams with seven punt returns for 150 yards and two touchdowns and four kick returns for 120 yards. Battles said USF was one of the first schools he starting talking to prior to his junior season, and has liked the program for some time. "We've been talking for a long time and I knew before they offered me that was the school I was going to go to," said Battles. "I said as soon as they offered me that was the school that I was going to go to, but decided to wait before announcing it." USFNation spoke with his head coach, Rob Armstrong, and he described him as a "perfect fit" for the Bulls offense. He said he's more than a power back, "Bradley has great size. He's a track kid, runs in the 4.4 range and he has great hands out of the backfield. He's one of the toughest kids we got and the strongest, he squats over 400 pounds. I know he loves Tampa and is excited to go there." Battles is a talented two-way athlete, that is explosive on both sides of the ball, but what position(s) are the Bulls recruiting him at? "They're recruiting me at running back," said Battles. "They also talked to me about special teams. I really like the offense they run and think I'll fit in well. I'm quick with powerful legs. I guess you could say I'm a powerful back." At 5'11 190 pounds, Battles is quick, tough, strong, and gets it done in the weight room. "I power clean 275, bench 255 and squat 415 pounds." said Battles and pretty sure I run a 4.4." Now that Bradley committed he has a good idea of what his summer plans will be. "I'm going to try and go to USF on the 21st, and was going to go a couple of other camps, but now that I'm committed I'm not going to." Being early in the recruiting season how solid is Battles committment to the Bulls? "I'm pretty straight, and I don't think there will be any back outs. I'm pretty sure that's where I'm going." The Bulls newest commit is glad to get the decision out of the way and said now he can concentrate on the upcoming season. "I want to get more yards, and more touchdowns then last year, I want to get bigger faster, stronger." Battles is a perfect combination of speed, elusiveness and power, and is a perfect fit for the Bulls. Stay tuned with USFNation.com for further updates on the 2009 recruiting class.
