Louisiana LB/DE/TE/WR Barkevious Mingo is Scout.com's #54 Southeast Junior, and U-M has offered him…
Make it Two Dozen for Mingo
At a very athletic 6-5, 212 pounds, and after putting up 66 tackles and six sacks in his junior season, it's not hard to understand why Mingo is rated so highly. But then add in the fact that last season was Mingo's first year playing organized football and that ranking becomes a little more amazing. His relative inexperience on the field has not deterred coaches from all over the country from coming after him, however. "I've got 24 offers now," Mingo said. "Pretty much every school that offered came by to see me in the spring. I've kind of reopened things with my recruitment now, and I don't have a list or anything like that anymore. But if I had to name a few schools they would be LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and USC." Most prospects take the opportunity in the summer to visit some of their prospective schools and attend camps. But Mingo says he probably won't be making any visits this summer. "I haven't been anywhere yet this summer, and I don't have any plans to go anywhere," Mingo said. "I'm just too busy. I'm going to summer school and we have weight lifting. We have a week off after we finish our weight program, so if I visit anywhere it will be that week." Even though it doesn't appear he will be making a trip down this summer, Mingo is still very interested in the home state Tigers. "I really like the coaches from LSU," he said. "I got to know them real well when they came by to visit me. Plus they are the home team." Mingo says he stays in touch with the LSU coaches regularly. "Coach Stud is the one recruiting me," said the nation's 11th ranked strong side linebacker. "But I also talk to Coach Miles, Coach Mallory, and Coach Peveto. I just talked to Coach Miles last Tuesday." "They all tell me they want me bad," he continued. "They want me to come in and play the buck linebacker position. Most schools are recruiting me for linebacker, but there are a few that want me at defensive end. I'd rather play linebacker though." A few weeks ago there was some speculation that Mingo had grown tired of the recruiting process and was about ready to get it over with. Now he says things have slowed down and he's going to hold off on a decision. "I'm going to commit somewhere between the middle of the season and signing day," said the 4 star prospect. "The recruiting process has slowed down a lot. I haven't really been talking to anyone lately. And I want to take some visits this fall. I'll go down to LSU for a few games, and I might go to one at Alabama too because that's not too far away. I'm going to take some official visits too, but right now I have no idea how many or where to yet."
