Fanua Talks About Cal Visit
Milpitas (Calif.) linebacker Steven Fanua (6-1, 205), set out for his first official visit this past weekend, not having to go too far, heading over to visit California. "It was good, the visit was really good," said Fanua. "Charles Satchell was my host. He was my teammate with Milpitas so that was real cool." Fanua, one of the top linebackers in NorCal, was able to get some quality time in with the Bears' coaching staff. "I spent some time with Coach (Al) Simmons, Coach (Kenwick) Thompson and Coach (Jeff) Tedford. Really, I got to hang out with all of the coaches and they were all really cool," said Fanua. Tedford, though, left the biggest impression on Fanua. "He is a really honest person and he's a good person, just from getting to know him," said Fanua. "He's a strong head coach. He's good people." Thanks to the close proximity to his home, Fanua got to make the weekend a family affair. "I took my mom and my dad, and my little brother went with us too," said Fanua. "We all had a really good time there." Fanua plays inside for Milpitas, but the Cal coaches told him they want him outside in college. "I play inside, but they're recruiting me for WILL so that's fine with me," said Fanua. Fanua has two more visits he's already scheduled, one to Fresno State in December and another to BYU on January 10. "I'm planning on taking all five but I don't really know where I'll take the other two too, I'm still trying to fill them out," said Fanua. Fanua declined to name a leader, but said he's open. "I'm keeping the colleges all wide open for the visit and then I'll decide. I'll probably commit when I feel it's the right time. It will probably hit me when I'm done with the trips." Fanua said that he does plan to take an LDS mission, but as of now, it doesn't appear to be during his college career. "I'm going to wait until I'm good and done with college," said Fanua. "Actually I'm planning on taking it later on in life, after I settle down and have my testimony. Fanua had over 200 tackles last season and he's again a tackling machine, recording 19 in his last game. Milpitas is 3-1 and faces Los Gatos this weekend.
