CB Ryan Campbell happy with decision

One of Ole Miss' key cornerback commitments talked about why he choose the Rebels without ever stepping foot on campus.

"They are a big time program," added the 6' 0" Columbus resident. "Look at how they finished in the SEC. They were killing everyone by the end of the year. They are going to be a powerhouse while I am in college. Coach Nutt is not going anywhere. He played a role in my deicsion too. I do not want to sign with somewhere where you have to start all over while I am there."

The Rebels also had another inside connection with Ryan Campbell .

"My high school coach knows Coach Tyrone Nix over there.. He told me they are going to take care of me. We put two and two together, and I am an SEC type player. I really like SEC football."

Who else was under consideration?

"I have offers from West Virginia, Memphis, Ole Miss, UAB, and Troy. There are more schools involved like Miami. The Miami coach came by my school last week. He told me that I could be a Miami guy. He said they were probably going to offer within the week. He told my secondary coach they were real close to offering me."

Coach Tyrone Nix was instrumental in landing Campbell.

"He recruited me hard, and he is a pretty nice guy. He is serious now You can tell how intense he is, but I like that. We talk everyday. He came to my house two or three times. He came by last Friday. He just has me convinced that is where I really need to be."

Any visits on the docket?

"I am going to Ole Miss this week, Memphis next, and Miami probaly the last weekend."

Why visit if you are committed?

"I did not want to take my visits, but my mother wants me to see all of the schools. My mom plays a big part so I have to listen to her."

Ryan led the City of Columbus (GA) in interceptions in his first year starting at cornerback, as Campbell played slot before his senior season.

"Yea, I led the city with 10 interceptions, and I brought back two of them for TD's. I had 45 solo tackles."

Awards came Campbell's way.

"I was named 1st Team All-Columbus and 1st Team All-State."

Carver High came up just short for the State Championship.

"We made it to the state semifinals and got put out in the 4th round but we finished 11-3. I am actually playing in one more high school game. I am playing in the Marine Bowl. It is the Georgia All-Stars versus Alabama's. I believe that is the right team.."
