Welsh Verbals to Syracuse
Syracuse added a defensive line commitment on Monday morning when St. Anthony's High School defensive tackle Rob Welsh gave the Orange a verbal commitment. We caught up with the 6-foot-3, 260-pound athlete to find out why he chose Syracuse just moments ago. "I committed to Syracuse this morning," Welsh said. "I called Coach (Doug) Marrone and Coach John Anselmo and they were very excited to have me. Ever since they started to recruit me they showed me a ton of interest and I just feel like Syracuse is definitely the right place for me." "The coaches are very nice there and treat me with great respect," Welsh added. "I like the campus a lot and feel comfortable there. I believe I could get some early playing time there and Syracuse is a great academic school that also has a lot of football tradition, so the fit was just perfect." Welsh chose Syracuse over Hofstra and New Hampshire and was also being recruited by Boston College, Maryland, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. "I just new Syracuse was the right spot for me, so I saw no reason to wait any longer." In securing Welsh, the new Syracuse staff has already started to regain that important St. Anthony's pipeline that produces so many talented players.
